These workshops revive the ancient role of apprenticing at skilled physical labor, and the sense of community that develops when people create sculpture together.
Central to my teaching is the metaphor of the tree becoming the wood we choose to work with. The challenge is to size, shape, form and these transform nature-made systems into creative works of art.
You learn skilled physical work, perception, and focusing on your creative process. Hand and tool skills are acquired through doing. I show how body posture while working can change painful to pleasant. We work on sharpening our senses and our tools, reading the wood, and improving our awareness of the individual tree that is the source of the wood.
