NLU Weekly #53 (November 10, 2007) - From the Creator of NLU Weekly
Welcome to NLU Weekly #53 called: "From the Creator of NLU Weekly". This was a pretty slow week, but I did miss talking about a few things last week, so there is a bit extra that I want to talk about. As usual let's get right to it with the agenda: From the Creator of Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Burnout Paradise Trailer and Closing Out. We're not going to give up, so let's get right to the first topic.

From the Creator of Final Fantasy...
comes one of the most boring ass, generic, easy, lame RPG's ever! If you can't tell by that, I have been playing Blue Dragon again and it's enough to make me want to scream. I believe one Comic-Book-Guy would say: "Boringest. Game. Evar." I would have to agree. Some might argue that that RPG's in general are boring, but I don't usually find them boring at all, in fact I find them quite stimulating, but Blue Dragon is the epitome of RPG haters arguments. Boring random battles, boring cleché story, boring dungeons, boring characters... just flat out boring. Blue Dragon is a prime example of a passé and mediocre game, it does what it does and noting more and none of that is done with any flair. Blue Dragon is like breathing, it something you do, but nothing worth bringing up in normal conversation.

The biggest reason that this game is just lame is that it just isn't inspired, Akira Toriyama's art is the same stuff he has been doing for years (and all it accomplishes is to remind me of Dragon Quest 8, a far, far, superior RPG), the main character is an over active kid, who's only thing is to yell "I won't give up" all the time and the story is basically non-existent, or is one of those that will explain itself in the final cut-scene of the game. I probably shouldn't ramble too much, I have to save something for the finished article, but damn this game just irks me. Compounding all the suckage is the fact the game is easy as heck, making every random battle a chore. The game makes you fight enemies that will take 2-4 minutes to fight, but don't have a hope in hell of defeating you, when they hit you with that devastating attack for 17 damage (out of your 600 total HP). The bosses are the same way, they have a better chance of kicking your ass, but find their weakness and watch them fall in 3 or 4 turns. Like I said, just uninspired, the game could have been decent 5 years ago, but it feels like a 15 year-old RPG trying to be more than it is. I'll save more for the Finished Article and I think you have the idea at this point...

Mass Effect
From the creators of KOTOR... nah... just kidding. Now here is an RPG worth looking forward to. I haven't talked too much about this game, but I want to a bit right now. In my E3 awards I called Mass Effect one of my surprises, because I hadn't really paid much attention to it. After calling it a surprise, I still ignored the game, but one day, I don't know, a month or two ago, I started catching up on media from the game and the more I watched the more excited I got for the game. Now it is just over a week away. Probably the thing I most excited about is the ability to explore uncharted worlds and the interactive story choices, I love how you can choose to to be a nice guy and talk it out or maybe just pull your pistol on the guy because you lost patience. It's deeper than that, but that is a good example of the choices you can make. Anyway, I'll talk more about the game as it nears it's release, I have a handy dandy countdown in the main header image. I also changed my Avatar to fit the theme. I have some big plans for the coverage of this game, so stay logged for more information.

Burnout Paradise Trailer
I wanted to talk about this last week but since I missed posting last week I want to talk about it now. I was excited for Burnout Paradise, which is now coming January 22, 2008, but after watching this video I am even more jacked up for this game. While listening to the Crash FM podcast on Criterion's website, somebody asked if DJ Stryker (from Burnout 3: Takedown) was coming back for Paradise, they said no, but they had a special DJ planned for Paradise. As I listened further, I discovered that the Burnout Team are big fans of SSX 3, I kind of guessed this based on the fact that DJ Stryker gives shout outs to the SSX 3 DJ and the intros for Revenge and SSX 3 have similar dialog. Where am I going with this? Well.. in SSX 3 (one of my top 20 personal favorites) the DJ is Atomica, he's the voice of EA Radio BIG, but now he's the voice of Crash FM! I enjoyed his dialog is SSX 3 and am excited to see what the Burnout Team did with him in Paradise. SSX 3 and Burnout are now finally connected... I'm going all fanboy here, so just watch the trailer...

I'm probably way more excited about this than you guys are, about DJ Atomica, I mean, not about Burnout Paradise, everyone should be excited for that. I tried to find you the SSX 3 Intro so you could see why I made such a big deal about this, but I couldn't find it, even on YouTube. That's it I'm done being all excited about such a little thing... next...

Closing Out
I got so carried away ranting about Blue Dragon that I forgot to mention that I am in the final part of the game and will probably have the game completed before Tuesday. When I do finish it I will go over again all the problems that I have with it. I have also been playing a crap-load of Halo 3 and have reached skill 21 in Team Slayer, remember when I was stuck at 16, I found a new skill which not to many people seem to use. That skill Battle Rifle head-shots. I can usually get 10 - 15 battle rifle kills and get 9 - 11 head-shots. It's a skill that I am pretty proud of personally.

Finally, I am again thinking about my Top 50 Videogames list and this year will have videos instead of screen shots. It's still early, so I'm not ready to say too much about it, but it will probably debut the first week of December. I think that about covers it, so I'm going to go bite the bullet and finish off Blue Dragon, even though it pains me to play that game. Nene is a stupid name for a bad guy. Loading Complete!
