 NLU Weekly #33 (May 24, 2007) - Achieve This!
 |
How's it going, I'm back and ready with another NLU Weekly, the 33rd edition for May 24 called: "Achieve This!" Just a word of warning, I am going to talk about achievement points and my gamerscore so if you hate that kind of stuff, then you might want to book it. Still here? Great, Agenda time: Playing for Points (Mostly) and Closing Out. Let's get to it! (Achievement Unlocked: Intro Completed - 25G)
Playing for Points (Mostly) It's time for my points report...
Aegis Wing, I unlocked 9 achievements for 115 points, I really want to like Aegis Wing, but, damn is it a boring shooter. Insane mode is a little better but it's definitely for more than one player because you only get one life and it's over, the only way to survive is to have the other player revive you by collecting a ship icon that replaces the power-ups. I played a bit with my brother locally, now he will straight up admit this, he sucks at these kinds of games. While I can keep an eye on all the enemies, his ship, my ship and all the bullets, he loses concentration pretty quickly. Same thing happened when we played Gradius V. I'd say: "Jeff, look out for that bullet!" "What Bul--" (his ship blows up)... He also used 13 of our 14 credits all by himself in Gradius V... Pretty funny. Though he is pretty good at other games, just not shooters.
Crackdown, I unlocked 30 achievements for 495 points since I got the game on May 14. I'm pretty close to being finished with the game, I am less than 30 agility orbs from 500, just need to max out my skill bars, kill the Shai-Gen and a tie up a few of the other achievements like impounding all the cars and such. It's a fun game, not quite as fleshed out as it could be, it could use a better story and better characters. Also, why is it so hard to run over the bad-guys in this game? They are too smart and dodge my car all the time, grrrrrrr....
Assault Heroes, I unlocked 4 achievements for 90 points (bringing my full total to 140 of 200), I don't really like Assault Heroes, it kind of reminds me of this old NES game called Jackal, but the screens scrolls faster if you are at the top of the screen, at the bottom it doesn't even move. The jeep is hard to control and just doesn't have the precision control needed for this type of game. There isn't much more to say really.
Saints Row, I unlocked 2 achievements for 20 points (bringing my full total to an even 500). I spent a couple of days doing lots of Insurance Fraud to get the $1,000,000 earned achievement and I also quickly got the buy 100 clothing/jewelery items for your single play wardrobe. Saints Row is still pretty fun, I have spent over 60 hours playing the game and I loved the whole game. On of my favorite parts of the game is the Insurance Fraud missions, because one, who doesn't love sending your character in to on coming traffic to get thrown 100's of feet and second, while in IF mission, some of the cars just go out of control and just cause all kinds of awesome wrecks. There are a couple of other achievements I'd like to get out of the game like the secret helicopter and steal 30 items ones.
So I totalled 720 points since May 14th and broke the 8000 points mark at 8402 out of 12,500 possible Gamerscore. I do enjoy getting points and will probably will be getting more next week with the release of Forza Motorsport 2... Which leads us to... (Achievement Unlocked: Points Report - 75G)
Closing Out Next week I will have coverage of Forza Motorsport 2 for the 360... That 3 screen set-up sure is sick, but that isn't for me, 3 HDTVs, 3 360's and 3 copies of the game, INSANE! And according to the developers you can even have more screens and 360s linked, at some of the shows where they had Forza 2, they had a fourth mini screen and used it as a rear-view mirror. You could even technically do a full 360 of TVs, but that's just not realistically possible for most people. If I had the bucks, I'd totally do that, just for the experience alone. I think that's about it on the gaming front for me, I did play some more of the Halo 3 Beta, but I'm kind of over it now to be honest. I think I will get the full game, but I've almost had enough of the three demo levels. Though, I did get pretty good at using the Battle Rifle and grenade throwing, I also learned the maps pretty damn well too. That's it, that was my week in gaming talk to you next week with Forza 2 impressions and NLU Weekly #34. (Achievement Unlocked: Loading Complete! - 100G)
