NLU Weekly #24 (March 8, 2007) - Once Upon a Wobbly Control Stick
Welcome NLU Weekly #24 for March 8, 2007 and it's called Once Upon a Wobbly Control Stick. This has been another slow week for me in videogames, so I will tell you about how the week went and what I plan to do for next week. The Agenda: This Week in Games, Next Week in Games and Closing Out. Time to boogie!

This Week in Games
If you have ever owned an Nintendo 64, you know how those flimsy control sticks get. After constant use, they end up like a wet noodle wobbling around and becoming almost useless. What does that have to do with the week in games? Considering I pretty much only played World Driver Championship for the N64 and so that I could drop that Retro Review on you, that seem relevant to the discussion. World Driver is a pretty good game, but it was over-hyped as a Gran Turismo Killer and just couldn't ever make up for that. Other than the team aspect (which is done much better in Ridge Racer Type 4) and having some really nice graphics, the game doesn't hold a candle to Gran Turismo and it's more in-depth gameplay.

I also played a few games of NHL 07, but that game is really easy even on SuperStar, the hardest setting. If you have any hockey sense at all, you can turn the game's defensive AI into swiss cheese with a few simple passes. They make mistakes that NHL teams would only be caught making at the worst of times, except here, you'll get three or more a game, sometimes one after another right off the face-off after you just scored. I usually win 9 to something and even though the scoring is really fun, the game is pretty shallow. Hopefully EA can make 08 even better. And that is it really, my Xbox was off for three days this week, I just didn't really get into anything like I did last week. So let's move on to next week.

Next Week in Games
Next week could be great.... if... I had the cash to pick up something, I'd like to grab Burnout Dominator (even though, it will probably be a bit disappointing) and I want to grab God of War II. But that is not likely to happen next week, so maybe I will start playing another older game and give you guys another Retro Review. I'm also thinking of finishing another one of those 2006 games that I bought and haven't finished. We'll see how I feel during the week... You like surprises, right?

Closing Out
Just announced out of GDC, Shivering Isles is coming March 27 for an astonishing 2400 Microsoft Points, that's $30 US, but in Canada that is a little under two 1250 points cards worth, that will run you $40. That's a bit steep for an expansion pack, hopefully though, it will have lots of awesome content to make it worth it. In other GDC news, I watched that presentation for Forza Motorsport 2 and I am really psyched for that game now, it looks like something that I would enjoy, but that's not until May. What I really want to know is when is Castlevania coming for XBLA? That's one I would really like to play soon, even though I own the original, I'd rather wait for the Xbox version. I think that is it on the future game list, I'll have more soon. Home? Loading Complete!
