NLU Weekly #39 (July 7, 2007) - Saturday Night is Alright for NLU Weekly!
Welcome to the first ever Saturday edition of NLU Weekly. This is the 39th edition and it's called Saturday Night is Alright for NLU Weekly. It has been sort of slow week, even though I did get The Darkness and The Bigs last week. I'm going to keep this short because I'm all ready passed the Saturday night deadline. Agenda: The Week and Closing Out. GO!

The Week
So this week I played mostly The Bigs, I wanted to get finished with the Rookie Challenge mode so that I'd have that out of the way so I could focus on The Darkness. Like I said in my impressions of The Bigs, the game has a lot of potential, but has a few issues that keep the game from being really great. Well, in addition to the problems I mentioned I had with the Big Play Meters, I also discovered a new, nearly game breaking "issue" with the game. First, get a team with a line up of good power hitters (3 or more stars in Power) and then head to a field with a higher than normal wall (Fenway Park and the Twins' Metro Dome for example), then aim the analog stick up and towards that wall, then swing away with the power swing button. If you connect enough to where it would normally be a chance at that stupid wall catch move, it will be an automatic homerun. You see the way the game is designed is that when you hit a normal home run, it barely clears the wall, giving the opportunity for the wall catch mini-game, but with the bigger than normal walls, the game adjusts by putting the ball automatically to the same height on the bigger wall, making the catch impossible.

Of course, many of the parks don't have a unclimbable wall, so you will be out of luck, but prepare to score over 30 runs with a good power hitting team in those situations. It makes the game incredibly easy in those parks, but it does feel nice to hit home runs without having to worry about the stupid AI making that wall catch all the time.

And really, that is all I did this week, I'll probably start on The Darkness again tomorrow (Sunday) now that I am done with The Bigs. Though I have still been playing Forza 2 quite a bit, in fact, our union is holding it's second race weekend today and tomorrow. I am looking to participate in both sessions if I can. There that is all I have to talk about for the week, but it won't be like that next week, because...

Closing Out
of a little thing called E3. Ha, that is probably the first time I can say that without it being sarcasm. I will as usual discuss what I heard and saw during the Big 3's press conferences and then close out the week (probably NLU Weekly #40) with all my thoughts of the happenings at E3 2007. That does it, I am out of here for now, I've got to go prepare a new design for the car I am going to race in our Paint Shop Union's Sunday session, tomorrow. Loading Complete!
