Special: My Top 50 Personal Favorite Games 2008 Edition: Games 40-31

PLEASE READ FIRST:
alpha99's Top 50 Videogames 2008 is a list of MY PERSONAL FAVORITE videogames. It is NOT attempting to be in any shape or form any kind of definitive greatest games of all time list. Remember this is a list of my PERSONAL FAVORITE games. Thank You!

This is the second of five posts on Now Loading covering my Top 50 Personal Favorite Games List - 2008 Edition. This is the 7th edition of this list and is the 2008 release, therefor contains many 2007 release titles. Basically these are games 40 to 31 of my personal favorites all in a nice ordered list for you. If you are wondering why these aren't very detailed, that's because you have to check out the full-site version on Saturday, there you will find gameplay movies and more details about the games all in a nice "card" format for you to click through.

Before we get started with the list, a little bit of info about this part of the list: Games 40 - 31 are still among the beginnings of the list as this is where the big release new games "get on to" the list. These games are just outside my main favorites but have a chance each year to graduate into the top 30 where my definite favorites are, though since new big release titles can enter the list here, titles here aren't totally safe from bumping.

I think that's about enough intro, so let's get started with games 40 to 31. Remember, these are MY PERSONAL FAVORITES in order.

GAME 40: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Dragon Quest VIII is one of those games that are on the list because of experience and because they are special games. Never in my life would I have thought that I could stick with any game for 95 hours, but Dragon Quest VIII is such a wonderfully developed game that you get drawn in and never want to leave. I added the game to the list this year, because, I loved my first play through of the game, but 95 hours is lot of time to put into just one game, so I have not been able to find that much time to finish it again, but I will at some point, the game is too great to only play once.
Publisher: Square-Enix
Developer: Square-Enix/Armor/Bird/Level-5
Released: 2005
System: PS2

GAME 39: Resident Evil
Resident Evil on GameCube is a remake of my favorite game of the pre-RE4 Resident Evil series, the original Resident Evil. The first game just suits my game s.tyle it's slower paced and a bit more survival and puzzle based than the later more action based RE games. And this remake takes that gameplay to new heights with bonus scenarios and new defensive weapons, like Daggers and Tazers. The awesome Graphics round out the package and trust me, you have to see it to believe it!
Publisher: Capcom
Developer: Capcom
Released: 2002
System: GameCube

GAME 38: Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo was the first in this great series of car racing games and it was the game that swayed me to getting a Playstation when I was a hardcore Nintendo only fan. While I like the racing the original provides the reason it is here is because I learned a ton about cars while playing this game. I learned about how to drive them, most of the real world physics apply, how to adjust them (although I still can't do it right) and about all that kind of stuff. Learning from a game, who'd a thought?
Publisher: SCEA
Developer: Polyphony Digital
Released: 1998System: PS1

GAME 37: Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X, what can I say about this game, it's the game that became a bit of a little joke with me here on Now Loading, almost every post there after March 28th, 2005 usually consisted of: "I'm going to finish FFX," "I'm going to play FFX so I can play FFX-2" and on and on for a span of nearly 7 months. I finally beat the game November 5th, 2005 and as usual I came away loving the game, it's one of my three Final Fantasy favorites (8, X, 7) now.
Publisher: Squaresoft
Developer: Squaresoft
Released: 2002
System: PS2

GAME 36: Forza Motorsport 2
Forza Motorsport 2 is a great driving game with a sublime driving engine that was the reason that I played the game for more than 50 hours to complete the career mode. The driving is the biggest reason to play Forza 2 in my opinion, all you have to do is like driving/racing games and you will find something here that you like. Be it the paint editor, online play, tuning, time attacks, car clubs or just driving (and crashing) over 300 of the worlds greatest cars.
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Developer: Turn 10
Released: 2007
System: Xbox 360

GAME 35: Super Mario Kart
Super Mario Kart is the first and the original mascot go-karting game. I think that Super Mario Kart is the only one of Nintendo's c.lassics which they still have yet to be able to top the quality and/or fun of in the newer instalments. I like Super Mario Kart the best out of the whole series because it is the most balanced in terms of weaponry (no blue or triple shells) and it also has the best two player battle mode of all the games.
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Released: 1992
System: SNES

GAME 34: Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. is a c.lassic in many a Nintendo fans books; it's also many gamers first experience on the good old NES. And the same holds true for me, this is a c.lassic game, it helped revive the videogame industry and that deserves a spot on anybody's Top games list. It's also the first videogame I ever played, the one that got me hooked on games back when I was 4 years old, without it, there would be a distinct possibility that this list that you are reading wouldn't exist.
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Released: 1985
System: NES

GAME 33: Gran Turismo 2
Gran Turismo 2 was everything that you expect a sequel to be: better and more realistic physics, over 500 cars, new manufacturers and new tracks and returning tracks from the first game. The game also included a bigger Simulation mode. And I can't forget to mention getting to try out Laguna Seca's famous Cork-Screw turn. Even though Gran Turismo 3 and 4 are technically superior GT2 is my favorite Gran Turismo game because it was still down to earth and didn't feature 24 hour races and such.
Publisher: SCEA
Developer: Polyphony Digital
Released: 1999
System: PS1

GAME 32: Tetris Attack
Tetris Attack isn't Tetris per se; it's more of a panel switching puzzle game, which features a really great vs. mode. Playing against another person is where it is at. If you get two skilled people going at it battles can last upwards of 5 minutes! Doesn't seem like long to you? It is when the tension is high and the pieces start to rise faster. You'll be holding your breath. It is really fun! And fun is one of the best reasons to get on this list.
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Intelligent Systems
Released: 1995
System: SNES

GAME 31: Okami
Beautiful. That is the only word you need to describe Okami to someone. Beautiful graphics, beautiful adventure and story and fairly beautiful gameplay. These are the most technically and artistically amazing graphics on PS2 or otherwise, the game has to be seen in action. The gameplay is quite similar to The Legend of Zelda, with puzzle filled dungeons and a massive world to explore. I loved every minute of my 43 hours with Okami and it another one of those special games that just don't come around that often, don't miss your chance at it..
Publisher: Capcom
Developer: Clover Studios
Released: 2006
