LoD Log 2K5: Disc 2 Start
Here we go, I played a bit more today, not as much as the previous days, but some good stuff happens. First you head to the north end of Fletz City and watch a scene where the Princess of the kingdom Emille is saying all kinds of rotten stuff to her people. Albert wonders what is going on, as far as he's heard she was supposed to be really nice. You next need to head to the town bar, where you meet Kaffi, who tells you to go talk to Fester, the local astronomer, who will tell them about "The Moon That Never Sets" (with FYI is the Subtitle for the Japanese version). He tells the party that every 108 years, the Moon glows red and in what is supposed to be a blessing, only brings on the appearence of the Black Monster. We'll learn more about the moon in the up coming posts, but this is all we get at first.

After meeting with Fester the group decides that it's not going to find Lloyd in Fletz, so they head to the Flower City Donau. Before you can get to Donau, though you have to cross the Barrens. Inside the barrens, Dart and co. meet up with Mappi of the local group of badits, The Gerich Gang. The fight with Mappi is easy, but he is the first of your enemies to have an instant death attack, so you have to have a Angels Prayer on hand to revive the KO'd party member. After the fight, a scene plays out where Mappi manages to swipe the Red Dragoon spirit from Dart and get away with it. For this short part of the game Dart can't transform. Having no hope of getting back at the moment, heading to Donau is the only option. In this town two things happen, you see a scene of Lloyd helping Wink, a character that you will meet later in the game and later these two will play a role in another part of the story. The other big thing comes up after you meet the town mayor and tell him that you are going to rescue his son from the Gerich's, you meet Meru, a perky dancing girl who joins your party, she is also the party member that I'll be using for the rest of the game (once she gets her Dragoon Spirit at the end of Disc 2).

Meru tells the group that the need permission of the Tiberoan King to get to the place where the bandits are hiding, that place "The Valley of Corrupted Gravity" or as some of the text boxes say, "The Vally of Corrupted Gravity," yup that's right they can't even spell "valley" right all the time. Just another fine example of how sad the translation or at least the localization of this game was, you think Sony would have learned after their experience with Final Fantasy VII(7)'s sometimes shoddy dialog. Anyway, back to the castle you go to get the pass from the King, with the help of Fester you get in to the castle, where you meet Emille's sister Lisa, who tells of how her sister Emille changed after an incident 6 months ago, she feels that it has something to do with the bandits.

After the scenes play out, you need to head for the "vally". Once there you need to find your way through all these floating rock platforms to get to the end. Also of note this is the location of the second of ONLY three groups of Rock Fireflies. Once at the end of the valley, a battle with the second Virage takes place. This enemy also has an instant death attack, which slightly annoying, but the boss battle overall isn't that tough. After the fight another scene of Shana's misterous powers is shown, but nobody knows what is wrong with her yet. Now it is time to head to the Giganto village where the Gerichs's are.

This is a really short section, you basically head up, until you reach the final fight. Although along the way you'll see the final collection of Rock Fireflies, that the game made such a big deal of back in disc 1. Anyways, you'll eventually take on Gerich himself, who just happens to be Haschel's old student, who he kicked out of the Rouge School 20 years ago. The battle is pretty straight forward, Gerich is pretty powerful and can do some big damage and Mappi still has his annoying instant death move which he will always use at least once. I kill of Mappi as fast as I can, then work on Gerich. After Haschel delivers the finishing blow, which slams Gerich in to the throne, it begins to break loose the arm of the huge statue. The are is about to land right on top of everyone, but they are saved by Kongol, who makes his return and soon after joins the party perminently. After heading to the basement to rescue the mayor's son Lynn and getting back the Red Dragoon spirit the group heads back to Fletz.

There is an optional scene here, if you head to Donau, before heading to Fletz, you get to Lynn and Kate's wedding and if you time it right, Dart helps Shana catch the bouquet. There are a couple of other things that you can or need to do before you head to Fletz and the next part of the game. First is get Dart to D'Lvl 3, so that he has Final Burst, it'll help you greatly in the upcoming portion and the second is to head back to Lohan and stop by the merchant (the one that sold you the water jar) and pay 1000G to get the Earth Dragoon Spirit for Kongol.

I stopped just in the hotel in Fletz, just before the next part of the game plays out. So tomorrow you can expect more coverage of the game, including the game's hardest non-optional boss fight, the ghost ship, and the end of Disc 2. So look forward to that.
